You are cycling on the country side, on the border between Tuscany and Umbria through farms, vineyards and olive groves towards Castiglione del Lago. This is the main centre of the lake area and a beautiful town to visit. The historical heart is surrounded by medieval walls and three gateways and beautiful views over the lake can be seen. Inside the town are the Rocca del Leone, a pentagonal medieval fortress, Palazzo della Corgna, an estageant Renaissance aristocratic residence built in 1560.

Day 3 Castiglione del Lago-Passignano

Today you are cycling  flat, taking a rest at some of the numerous scenic viewpoints or refreshment places along the way. The route runs close to the water of the lake through a thick wood that is cool even in hot summer weather. Past the wood, you are cycling close to the railway line to Lido di Tuoro (km 14,7), where food and water are available. Passignano is also worth visiting, as it has preserved many of the characteristics of an ancient fortified village protected by walls and a fortress.

Day 4 Assisi-Spello-Foligno

A bike tour to arrive in Spello and then in Foligno. Spello is a little town situated on a spur of Mount Subasio and Foligno is situated  on the  plain. Spello, along with its neighbouring cities, is surely the one which preserves the greatest number of monuments testifying to the Roman era. Foligno is one of the very few Umbrian cities built in the plain!

Wine tasting at winery near Spello

In Foligno there are beautiful “piazze” (squares) and historic buildings. The most significant part is Piazza della Repubblica with its elongated shape, is the junction of four streets at the corners was planned according to the lay-out popular in the 12th and the 13th centuries for many Umbrian town squares. There there are the Cathedral, erected between 1262 and 1265, the Pretorio Palace, the Orfini Palace (1515) and the Trinci Palace, which preserves traces of the original beautiful decorations and some rooms with valuable frescoes, look down on the square.

The cycling road is flat and safe. You will ride crossing the countryside, along secondary roads,  without traffic. Km 25, just flat

Day 5 Foligno-Bevagna-Foligno

A relaxing and flat route for the second cycling day! You will cycle along the cycle and pedestrian path which joins Assisi and Spoleto. The road is easy and amazing, you are riding along rivers and canals. Bevagna is an ancient small and beautiful town.

Its appearance is the result of its developement during the Middle Ages. In fact, even if the Roman had constructed the ancient Mevania in such a way that the Flaminia Road was the decuman axis of the town, the town's center is now placed more to the South. In Piazza Silvestri, you absolutely should not miss the Gothic Palace of the Consuls, the Churches of St. Sylvester (1195 d.C.) and St. Michael Arcangel.
