2 days, cycling from Assisi to Spoleto crossing the Valle umbra. Through the countryside, villages and small towns rich in art and history

DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1: Assisi-Spello-Bevagna (km 30, ascent 150m)

Day 2: Bevagna-Spoleto (km 35, ascent 100m)

DESCRIPTION

DAY 1 We suggest you to visit Assisi before starting. Is a famous and old town where was born Saint Francis (in 1181 or 91) the saint lover of the nature, povertry and Jesus. Visiting the town you will discover a roman temple, a medieval fortress and many important churches. The most famous is the Saint Francis church with frescoes painted by Giotto, Cimabue, Simone Martin, Pietro Lonrenzetti and others, the most important medievals italians artists.

From Assisi you will ride towards Spello along the "Olive oil trees street" an amazing narrow road. 

Spello is a beautiful and old small town (we suggest you to walk in the center!). From this point you will ride again towards Bevagna. Is a flat and easy route, and Bevagna is a small surprise.

DAY 2  From Bevagna you will cycle crossing the countryside along an easy and safe cycling path. Before arriving in Spoleto I suggest you a stop break to the "Fonti del Clitunno" is a natural area where is the Clitunno river spring.

Spoleto is a wonderful town, wih many important monuments (Ponte delle Torri, Duomo, Piazza del Mercato, Teatro Romano...)

INFORMATION  Travelling to Assisi and from Spoleto by train, it is very accessible from/to Rom or from/to Florence.
